Iraq and Turkey Strengthen International Land Transport to Boost Trade

The Joint Committee for International Land Transport between Iraq and Turkey met in Ankara to enhance bilateral cooperation and economic relations, with representatives from transport and trade authorities participating.

The Iraqi delegation was led by Mr. Mortadha Karim Al-Shahmani, accompanied by Eng. Star Ouda and Eng. Israa Hanoun, while the Turkish side was represented by Mr. Murad Bashtur, trade officials, local guarantors, and transport experts.

The meeting addressed issues in freight and passenger transport, focusing on the International Road Transport (TIR) Convention, its implementation, and the role of local guarantors in facilitating border crossings and customs clearance to reduce transit time and operational costs.

Participants exchanged official trade and transport statistics and discussed challenges facing transport companies and truck drivers, proposing solutions within the legal frameworks of both countries to improve transport flow and support mutual economic interests.
