Iraq and Saudi Arabia have discussed strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation and activating existing memoranda of understanding, as Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism signaled plans to visit Baghdad in the near future.
The head of the Iraqi Tourism Authority, Eng. Nasser Ghanem Murad, met with Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb on the sidelines of the 52nd meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for the Middle East.
The two sides reviewed prospects for expanding joint cooperation, particularly in tourism investment, promotion of archaeological and heritage sites, as well as the development of sustainable tourism programmes aimed at supporting economic growth and job creation.
They also stressed the importance of activating signed memoranda of understanding to advance the tourism sector, enhance expertise exchange and organise joint events and initiatives that stimulate regional tourism movement.
For his part, Minister Al-Khateeb expressed his desire to visit Iraq in the coming period to explore its key archaeological, heritage and tourism landmarks. He also indicated interest in discussing opportunities for joint regional and international promotion, in a move aimed at strengthening both countries’ positions on the global tourism map and advancing sustainable tourism development.
