President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing mechanisms of mutual cooperation during high level official talks held at the Baghdad Palace, as part of the Pakistani president’s official visit to Iraq at the head of a senior government delegation.
The discussions reviewed the overall state of Iraqi-Pakistani relations, alongside an exchange of views on regional and international developments. Both sides emphasised the importance of coordinating positions and enhancing dialogue in ways that contribute to regional security and stability and support broader efforts toward de-escalation.
I President Rashid underscored Iraq’s interest in expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation, particularly in maritime connectivity, while also advancing cultural and scientific collaboration and strengthening academic and institutional partnerships to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
The talks further addressed security and defense cooperation, capacity building, and the follow up on existing memorandums of understanding, especially those related to investment.
President Zardari, for his part, expressed Pakistan’s readiness to broaden cooperation with Iraq across various sectors, reflecting the depth of historical ties and reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
