Iraq and Germany Expand Political and Security Cooperation

Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, reaffirmed Baghdad’s commitment to deepening relations with Germany during talks with members of the Bundestag on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. He described the relationship as steadily advancing and underlined Iraq’s intention to broaden cooperation across political, security and development sectors, reflecting a shared determination to elevate the partnership to a more strategic level.

The discussions focused on sustaining constructive coordination between the two countries and reinforcing institutional cooperation. Both sides emphasised the importance of joint efforts in supporting regional stability and strengthening state institutions. Iraq highlighted its balanced foreign policy approach, aimed at encouraging dialogue, reducing tensions and promoting diplomatic solutions across the region.

German parliamentarians welcomed the momentum in bilateral ties and expressed support for continued political dialogue and expanded cooperation. The meeting underscored Iraq’s active diplomatic engagement on the international stage and its efforts to consolidate partnerships with key European actors. The talks reflected a shared vision centred on stability, cooperation and long-term development.
