Huawei Expands Iraq Infrastructure With New Power System

Chinese tech-giant Huawei has recently deployed a high-capacity power backup solution in Iraq. Designed for mission-critical operations, the system focuses on reliability, scalability, and continuous power supply. The initiative adds to Huawei’s ongoing work across Iraq in digital infrastructure, energy systems, and technical training.

In the collaboration between Huawei Digital Power and Erbil-based IT company Hi-Tech, the future-ready power system combines advanced battery storage with high-efficiency cooling and resilient backup capacity. Centred on a 4.8MW uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system, the project will support critical infrastructure such as data centres and telecommunications networks, where uninterrupted power is essential.

The solution is built with long-term adaptability, enabling capacity expansion from 14.4MW at initial stages to 21.6MW as demand grows. It also integrates advanced lithium-ion battery storage with built-in safety features, alongside a high-capacity cooling system to maintain stable operations. These features provide resilient, end-to-end power distribution aimed at improving reliability, efficiency, and sustainability in key infrastructure environments.

The project comes as Huawei continues to take on major energy and reconstruction projects across Iraq. In recent years, the company has worked with telecom operator Asiacell on upgrading nationwide networks, including designing intelligent IP networks to support high-capacity data services and 5G applications. It has also been involved in building and supporting Tier III-certified data centres, aimed at improving cloud capacity and digital service reliability.

Beyond core infrastructure, the company has increasingly positioned itself as a partner in the country’s digital and human capital development. From integrating smart classroom systems into local schools to providing ICT education to early career professionals, its initiatives have focused on building practical skills and strengthening the local capacity to support Iraq’s growing digital and energy sectors.

Against this backdrop, the latest power-backup solution reflects Huawei’s continued involvement in the region, now moving toward more complex and large-scale energy systems. Where earlier efforts focused on establishing and upgrading core systems, this deployment builds on that foundation by supporting more high-demand environments. Recent developments point to Huawei’s sustained presence in the country, with a deeper level of involvement in shaping more advanced infrastructure systems over time.
