Health Ministry Launches Construction of 100-Bed Hospital in Baghdad

The Minister of Health, Dr Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, launched today, the executive works for a 100-bed hospital project in the Al-Rahmaniya Al-Shalla area on the Karkh side of Baghdad. The project forms part of the Iraqi-Chinese agreement, which includes the construction of sixteen hospitals of the same capacity across the country.

During the ceremony, Dr Al-Hasnawi conveyed Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry’s staff in improving healthcare services and expanding medical facilities nationwide. The Prime Minister affirmed that the health sector remains a key priority for the government, with a strong focus on modernising infrastructure and providing equitable access to medical care.

He noted that the government has completed and opened eighteen hospitals across Iraq, while eight more are under construction. The number of beds in public hospitals has increased from 43,500 to 46,900 in less than three years and is expected to reach 60,000 once ongoing projects are completed. The government is also implementing a joint management system in six hospitals in partnership with international institutions to enhance service quality.

The new hospital in Al-Rahmaniya aims to strengthen the healthcare network in Baghdad, reduce pressure on central facilities, and improve access to medical services for residents in the Karkh area and surrounding districts.
