On Saturday, Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani officially inaugurated the factories of the United Arab Company for Food Industries Ltd., located in Al-Mahmoudiya District, south of Baghdad.
During his visit, he praised the company’s leadership and workforce, affirming the government’s commitment to supporting the second phase of expansion. He described the factory as a model project built to modern standards and emphasised the fundamental role of the private sector in advancing the national economy.
The Prime Minister toured the facilities, including factories and administrative departments, and received a briefing on the company’s products and production levels, representing the first phase of operations.
This phase includes factories for pasta and noodles built on 20% of the 123 dunam site, with a total investment of 128 billion Iraqi dinars. The company plans to increase its workforce to over 1,000 employees and supply the local market, while exploring export opportunities to neighbouring countries.
Al-Sudani highlighted ongoing government reforms to remove legal and regulatory barriers obstructing private sector growth. He noted the national unemployment rate has fallen to 13%, largely thanks to private sector expansion following the Retirement and Social Security Law, which equalised benefits for private and public employees.
He also emphasised government support for locally made products, including an 18% subsidy on export values. Domestic production generates significant cash flow and job creation, with Iraqi citizens taking pride in “Made in Iraq” products that undergo strict quality control. Equipped with modern machinery and technology, Iraqi factories are signalling a strong industrial revival.
