The Ministry of Oil signed a Heads of Agreement (HOA) on Wednesday with US-based ExxonMobil, aiming to strengthen Iraq’s oil industry, modernise export infrastructure, and attract international investment.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, who highlighted the agreement as a major step for the future of Iraq’s energy sector and for enhancing economic ties with the United States.
The Prime Minister emphasised Iraq’s commitment to cooperating with major international oil companies, particularly American firms, to operate key oil fields such as the Majnoon Field in Basra, and to invest in gas development projects. He also stated the importance of adopting advanced technologies to boost oil production, diversify export routes, and improve efficiency.
ExxonMobil’s Senior Vice President, Peter Larden, expressed gratitude to the Iraqi government for facilitating the partnership and praised the country’s progress.
