Basra Salt Production Expands Toward 500,000 Tons

Basra Salt, operated by the General Company for Mining Industries, has increased its annual production to more than 400,000 tons for the fourth year running. The company has set its sights on reaching 500,000 tons by 2026, reflecting sustained growth and development in Iraq’s industrial salt sector.

Engineer Muhammad Qasim Muften, the company’s general manager, highlighted that Basra Salt is a key industrial project contributing to the promotion of local production and providing high-quality industrial salt. The facility produces both edible and refined salt through modern production lines, with full operations of the Taam salt and purified salt lines planned for the coming year.

The expansion is part of a programmed partnership with the private sector, designed to ensure the sustainability of production and meet the increasing needs of both government sectors and the local market. Development works are progressing at an accelerated pace, aiming to secure a stable supply of industrial salt for Iraq’s growing demand.
