Basra International Airport announced the arrival of the second aircraft from the Basra Airlines fleet, marking another step in strengthening the governorate’s growing role in Iraq’s aviation sector.
The newly arrived aircraft, named “Abu Al-Khaseeb,” joins the first plane, “Shatt Al-Arab,” both of which are CRJ1000 models. The plane landed at Baghdad International Airport before continuing its journey to Basra, where it will officially enter service as part of the national carrier’s regional expansion.
According to the airport’s media department, the new addition reinforces Basra’s position as a key aviation hub in Iraq and the wider region. With this milestone, Basra joins a select number of cities worldwide to operate its own airline fleet, reflecting the province’s growing economic and logistical significance.
The achievement comes through the efforts of Basra Governor Sheikh Asaad Al-Eidani and Dr Hussein Al-Zuhairi, Director General of Iraqi Airports, who have been closely following up on the airline’s development and fleet expansion.
