Baghdad Wins Bid to Host Global Expo 2029 Garden

Baghdad has been chosen to host Expo 2029 Garden, following a vote at the 77th Annual Congress of the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) in Ghent, Belgium.

The Iraqi capital’s bid won over proposals from Thailand, Malaysia, Argentina, and Australia.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani commended Iraq’s representatives, who spent a year and a half working to secure Baghdad’s selection. Their efforts included hosting an international delegation in Baghdad to assess Iraq’s preparations, which played a pivotal role in the successful outcome.

The event, regarded as the second-largest global gathering after the World Cup, is expected to attract millions of visitors.

It will highlight Iraq’s ancient civilisation, rich heritage, and cultural diversity through environmental, cultural, and entertainment activities.

Hosting Expo 2029 Garden is also expected to drive sustainable development, aligning with Iraq’s climate commitments while boosting environmental, tourism, and agricultural sectors.

The Prime Minister has directed authorities to begin preparations immediately to ensure the successful delivery of this global event.
