On Wednesday 22nd January, the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that the College of Media at the University of Baghdad has been included in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the first time.
This achievement was recognised in the Communication and Media Studies category, making the University of Baghdad the only Iraqi university to feature in this global ranking for this discipline.
The rankings in Communication and Media Studies are based on the same trusted performance indicators used in the broader Times Higher Education World University Rankings, tailored specifically for the field. These include:
- Analysis of 157 million citations from academic publications.
- Assessment of 18 million research papers.
- Feedback from 93,000 international researchers.
Dr Ammar Taher, Dean of the College of Media, expressed his pride in this achievement, stating: “The inclusion of the College of Media at the University of Baghdad in the Times Higher Education rankings is an international recognition of our faculty’s dedication, our students’ hard work, and the university’s commitment to excellence in media education and research.”
The university aims to build on this success, enhancing its curriculum, research initiatives, and international collaborations to further its global impact. This recognition marks a significant milestone for Iraq’s academic sector, reinforcing the country’s potential in global media scholarship. The University of Baghdad’s achievement sets a precedent for other Iraqi institutions, inspiring them to strive for excellence on the global stage.
