Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Sunday to review progress on the second phase of the development and rehabilitation works along Baghdad’s historic Al-Rasheed Street. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, and several advisers and senior officials.
During the briefing, officials presented detailed updates on the ongoing works covering roughly 3.5 kilometres, extending from Maaruf Al-Rusafi Square to the new Italian Hospital. The second phase also includes the rehabilitation of 183 public and private buildings along the route.
The discussions addressed administrative and technical obstacles affecting the project, in addition to reviewing plans for developing the surrounding Al-Bataween area. Officials said the goal is to transform the wider district in line with the standards of major tourism capitals.
The Prime Minister highlighted the cultural and historical importance of Al-Rasheed Street to the Iraqi public and welcomed their positive response to the first phase of the project. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Baghdad’s heritage and expanding similar restoration efforts across other historic districts of the capital.
