The Ministry of Planning has reaffirmed its commitment to overseeing the rehabilitation of the Baghdad-Kirkuk road, a vital infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation and commercial movement. According to a statement released today, specialised field follow-up teams have been closely monitoring the project’s progress, identifying any obstacles hindering its completion, and taking necessary measures to resolve them.
The project, which is being executed in line with international specifications, consists of two key sections. The first section involves the rehabilitation and maintenance of the two-lane road from Al-Ghalabiya Bridge to Habhab, spanning 9 kilometres with a width ranging from 10.5 to 11 metres. The second section covers the rehabilitation and resurfacing of the two-lane road from Al-Ghalabiya Bridge to the Baghdad entrance control point, extending 21 kilometres with a width of 12 metres. This section features normal asphalt exposure, followed by a final layer enhanced with polymer for durability.
With a completion rate of 96%, the project is in its final stages and is expected to be fully completed within the year. The Ministry highlighted the road’s strategic importance, noting that its rehabilitation will significantly ease congestion, reduce traffic accidents, and enhance the efficiency of commercial transport to the northern governorates.
By ensuring high construction standards and effective oversight, the Ministry of Planning continues to support Iraq’s infrastructure development, reinforcing safe and efficient transport networks for both citizens and businesses.
