Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani has inaugurated the construction works of the Baghdad International Hospital, a landmark healthcare project developed by Qatar Investment Holding Company. The initiative underscores Iraq’s growing partnership with Qatar and the government’s commitment to attracting international investment in vital sectors.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Baghdad, Al-Sudani welcomed the Qatari partners and highlighted the growing cooperation between Iraq and Qatar. He recalled the visit of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, who had earlier announced a package of projects worth between five and seven billion US dollars across several sectors in Iraq.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the new hospital reflects his government’s determination to create a supportive investment climate by cutting bureaucracy, modernising outdated laws, and introducing reforms that encourage foreign participation. He praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health, the National Investment Commission, and the Baghdad Municipality for completing all necessary procedures to license and launch the project.
“Our government has taken concrete steps to support the private sector and create an investment environment that now exceeds 102 billion dollars in value,” Al-Sudani said. “We have opened the door to distinguished international companies, as we have seen with Qatar Estithmar Holding Company.”
Al-Sudani reaffirmed that the healthcare sector remains one of the government’s top priorities, citing progress under the Health Insurance Law, which now covers more than 2.3 million citizens.
