Baghdad has hosted the launch of the Arab Media Forum 2025, bringing together ministers, senior media figures, and experts from across the Arab world to discuss the future of regional communication in the digital era. The event, organised by Al-Sayyida Al-Oula Magazine and held under the patronage of Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission (CMC), marked a significant moment for Baghdad as a hub of regional media cooperation.
In his opening address, CMC Chairman Dr Nofal Abu Ragheef stressed the importance of convening such forums in Baghdad, a city he described as a beacon of history, culture and human civilisation. He said that modern media has become a primary force shaping public opinion, carrying an expanded level of responsibility amid rapid digital transformation.
Dr Abu Ragheef highlighted artificial intelligence as one of the most influential technological advances in today’s media landscape. However, he warned that emerging digital tools are frequently exploited to serve political agendas, misinformation networks, and commercial interests. This, he noted, requires a strong and balanced regulatory and ethical response.
The panel emphasised that empowering responsible media is a shared duty between institutions, journalists, and audiences. Calling for a strategic partnership that safeguards freedom while reinforcing professional discipline.
CMC announced Iraq’s intention to propose a Unified Arab Charter for Responsible and Influential Media at the upcoming session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers. The document aims to define principles and standards for a modern Arab media system rooted in professionalism, mutual respect and the rejection of hate speech.
