Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Monday reaffirmed the strategic importance of the Development Road Project, urging accelerated progress and closer coordination with specialists to complete its requirements.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Al-Sudani chaired a meeting of the Higher Committee for the Development Road, attended by the ministers of transport and industry, the executive director of the Iraq Development Fund, several advisers and director generals, and representatives from consultancy firms KBR and Oliver Wyman.
The meeting reviewed the auditor company’s tasks and the proposed timelines for completing the audit of the railway and roadway designs. It also examined the costs for the rail line and land route, as well as the operating plans submitted by Oliver Wyman and BTP.
Al-Sudani instructed officials to select the most efficient operational plan and present a comprehensive summary at the next meeting, stressing the urgency of finalising the options under discussion.
The committee also reviewed progress across all components of the strategic project and discussed legal mechanisms for the contract to operate Grand Faw Port under joint management with Abu Dhabi Ports, in coordination with KBR.
Additionally, Oliver Wyman delivered a detailed presentation outlining principles for launching the project’s third phase, aimed at activating contractual obligations following the completion of the first two phases.
