Al-Sudani Launches Iraq Vision 2050 for Economic Transformation

Prime Minister Al-Sudani has officially launched Iraq Vision 2050, a long-term development plan aimed at reshaping the country’s economy, governance, and society. The launch ceremony on Saturday brought together senior officials, private sector leaders, diplomats, academics, and members of the media.

The vision sets out five main goals: building a productive and vibrant society, creating a diversified and sustainable economy, ensuring accountable governance, strengthening Iraq’s standing regionally and internationally, and empowering youth as a central force in national development.

Al-Sudani explained that Iraq Vision 2050 was developed with the support of the Ministry of Planning, the Advisory Commission, and the McKinsey Global Institute. The plan seeks to reduce Iraq’s dependence on oil, increase private sector contributions, and achieve sustainable growth through public-private partnerships, digital monitoring, and international cooperation.

Key initiatives include the Al-Faw Grand Port and the Development Road project, which are expected to create 1.5 million jobs and help Iraq achieve 70% self-sufficiency in food, water, and energy through sustainable projects. The plan also addresses structural reforms in government institutions and includes proactive risk management to prepare for potential crises.

Al-Sudani described the vision as a “message to the world” that Iraq is rising again, reclaiming its role as a productive and influential country.

The plan is a unifying effort, involving state institutions, the private sector, universities, civil society, and youth, and represents the government’s commitment to long-term growth and stability.
