Al-Fudhailiyah Hospital Opens Expanding Baghdad Healthcare Services

Al-Fudhailiyah General Hospital, a 246-bed facility, officially opened in eastern Baghdad today, offering advanced healthcare services to local communities. The hospital, stalled since 2014, is part of Iraq’s nationwide effort to revive delayed infrastructure projects and improve public health access.

Equipped with a fully functional emergency department, ten operating theatres, three maternity wards, and specialised units for surgery, pediatrics, endoscopy, physiotherapy, radiology, and dialysis, the hospital also features 36 outpatient clinics, a blood bank, a central pharmacy, a lecture hall, and a residential complex with 48 staff apartments. Covering 27 dunams, it serves districts including Al-Fudhailiyah, Al-Kamaliyah, Al-Baladiyat, Al-Mashtal, and Al-Ameen.

Officials emphasised that the hospital’s early completion, eight months ahead of schedule, demonstrates a commitment to overcoming delays in Iraq’s healthcare infrastructure. The government has addressed stalled projects, implementing reforms and establishing committees to identify and resolve causes of delays.

The facility is part of a broader plan to expand healthcare nationwide. Sixteen additional 100-bed hospitals are expected to open in districts across Iraq, while the Health Insurance System now covers over 2.3 million citizens. A joint management model between hospitals and relevant departments has been introduced to improve quality and decentralise service delivery.

The inauguration marks a significant milestone in Iraq’s health sector, reflecting a renewed focus on modernising medical facilities, increasing capacity, and restoring public trust in essential services.
