My Lost Country: a memoir of a father from Iraq

On the 1st of July, Ishtar Yasin Gutierrez introduced her documentary ‘My Lost Country’ at the SAFAR Film Festival at the French Institute of London. Ishtar shared a personal memoir of her late father, Mohsen Sadoon Yasin, an Iraqi theatre director. She produced the film using letters, photos, and home videos combined with a touch of creative instincts involving movements, raw essence of emotions and passion through storytelling.

Iraq is also a big theme throughout the documentary as she reveals the pain of not being able to be closer to Iraq, but at the same time feeling connected to Iraq and its culture. There is a strong feeling of longing towards her homeland and her father which allows the audience to dive into the intensity of the film with a story many can relate to.
