In April of this year, Baghdad hosted the first Iraqi Medical Tourism Fair and Conference. Made possible by the support of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, and under the supervision of Dr Saleh Al-Hasnawi, the Iraqi Minister of Health.
This event was a powerful statement of how far Iraq has come, and where it’s heading. The event brought together healthcare professionals, diplomats, international partners and government officials with one collective aim: to position Iraq as a serious candidate in global medical tourism.
One of the most prominent voices at the fair was that of Dr. Rozhin Mahdi, who contributed to presenting the conference. In a statement, she said this event was “truly a milestone in reintroducing Iraq’s medical capabilities to the world.”

This event also went beyond a medical conference, highlighting the central role women play in Iraq’s medical sector and other industries across Iraq.
During this event, women were speaking on panels and sharing their knowledge and insight, in the hopes of reshaping Iraq’s medical tourism industry.
The fair was a clear reminder that women are not just part of Iraq’s future, but are helping to lead it. Through collaboration and global partnerships, the event showcased a healthcare sector ready to grow. The 2025 Medical Tourism Fair marked the start of a new chapter, one driven by progress, innovation, and inclusion.
