Two key infrastructure agreements were signed this week between Iraq and the French Development Agency (AFD), marking a significant step toward improving wastewater management and urban services in the country.
The agreements, valued at a combined €130 million, will fund critical sewerage projects in Anbar and Diwaniyah Governorates. The first is a €30 million supplementary loan for the Al-Khalidiya District Sewerage Project in Anbar, increasing its total financing to €110 million. The second allocates €100 million to the Al-Hamza District Sewerage Project in Diwaniyah.
These agreements are part of a broader financing framework offered by the French government to support Iraq’s infrastructure development. The projects are designed not only to modernise wastewater treatment systems but also to enhance environmental health and living standards in the target areas.
As part of the cooperation, Iraq aims to benefit from French technological expertise in wastewater treatment, contributing to service improvements and more efficient resource management.
