Baghdad Mayor, Eng. Ammar Musa Kazim, participated as a keynote speaker in a dialogue session on the sidelines of the Arab-European Cities Dialogue Forum, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The session also featured the mayors of Tangier (Morocco), Cologne (Germany), and Turku (Finland), fostering an exchange of ideas on urban challenges and sustainable development.
During his speech, Mayor Kazim addressed the pressing climate challenges facing Baghdad, particularly the impacts of desertification and drought, which have intensified in recent years. He outlined the proactive measures undertaken by the Iraqi government to mitigate these issues, focusing on initiatives to expand green spaces, implement vital infrastructure projects, improve waste treatment processes, and preserve the city’s environmental integrity.
Highlighting the significance of cross-border collaboration, Mayor Kazim emphasised the need for joint urban strategies to combat climate change, drawing on shared experiences and innovative solutions from Arab and European cities.
The Arab-European Cities Dialogue Forum serves as a platform to discuss sustainable urban development, promoting partnerships between cities to address global challenges. Baghdad’s participation underscores its commitment to implementing resilient environmental policies and fostering international cooperation in the face of climate adversity.
