Nasiriyah Heart Hospital Achieves Milestone with Complex Surgeries

In a remarkable medical achievement, Nasiriyah Heart Hospital in Dhi Qar successfully performed three complex open-heart surgeries simultaneously, showcasing the hospital’s advanced capabilities and expertise in cardiac care. The operations took place in specialised surgical rooms, with each case led by highly skilled cardiac surgery consultants.

The first surgery, supervised by consultant cardiac surgeon Dr. Hussein Hashem, involved a child suffering from a large ventricular septal defect (VSD) and severe aortic valve prolapse caused by chronic reverse blood flow. The team successfully closed the defect and repaired the aortic valve, stabilising the patient’s condition.

The second operation, led by consultant Dr. Qutaiba Al-Talib, addressed severe damage to the aortic and mitral valves in an adult patient. The surgical team replaced the damaged valves with artificial ones, and the patient is now recovering steadily in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The third procedure, conducted by consultant Dr. Manaf Mohammed Khudair, involved a three-year-old child with a rare congenital heart defect: a complete atrioventricular canal, severe valve prolapse, and a rare defect in the left superior vena cava. The intricate surgery was a success, and the child is under careful observation in the ICU.

All three patients are reported to be in stable condition, benefiting from the diligent care of the medical, nursing, and anaesthesia teams. The successful completion of these complex cases highlights the Nasiriyah Heart Hospital’s commitment to advancing cardiac surgery in Iraq and providing life-saving treatments to patients of all ages.
