Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met with representatives of several international media outlets on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum. The discussions focused on Iraq’s foreign policy direction, regional cooperation, and the country’s growing diplomatic engagement.
During the exchange, Mr Hussein highlighted the importance of diplomacy and dialogue as pillars of Iraq’s international approach. He spoke about the region’s evolving landscape and the role of strategic partnerships in fostering greater economic, political, and cultural connectivity among neighbouring states.
In particular, Mr Hussein emphasised Iraq’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with countries in the region, noting progress in economic collaboration, infrastructure development, and trade facilitation. He described regional partnerships as essential to shared prosperity and long-term stability.Commenting on Iraq’s relationship with Turkey, the Minister highlighted the positive trajectory of cooperation in various sectors. He pointed to ongoing work to boost trade and enhance mutual investment opportunities, adding that coordination on key regional initiatives continues to grow. “Turkey is an important partner in our efforts to promote integration and development,” Mr Hussein stated.
He also welcomed renewed diplomatic dialogue between global actors, stressing that open channels of communication are crucial for building trust and finding common ground. Mr Hussein reiterated Iraq’s support for peaceful and constructive engagement at both the regional and international levels.
In his remarks, the Minister called for enhanced coordination on economic development strategies and knowledge-sharing across borders. He proposed joint frameworks that support innovation, sustainable growth, and youth empowerment, noting that inclusive progress requires regional commitment and cooperation.
Mr Hussein concluded by affirming Iraq’s commitment to being a proactive partner in international diplomacy. “We continue to advocate for a balanced foreign policy rooted in mutual understanding and respectful dialogue. Iraq is ready to contribute to a more connected, cooperative future for the region,” he said.
