Iraq, Russia Prepare for Upcoming Russian-Arab Summit

On the sidelines of the Arab Summit held in Baghdad, the Undersecretary of Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al-Ulum, met with the Special Envoy of the Russian President for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov. The meeting also included the Russian Ambassador to Baghdad, Mr. Elbrus Kotrashev.

Mr. Bogdanov, who attended the summit as Russia’s representative in its capacity as an observer member of the League of Arab States, extended congratulations to the Iraqi government and people for the successful organisation of the event. He also conveyed a message of goodwill from Russian President Vladimir Putin, commending Iraq’s efforts in promoting regional dialogue and stability.

Ambassador Bahr Al-Ulum welcomed Mr. Bogdanov’s presence at the summit and reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to deepening its ties with Russia. He emphasised the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and cultural sectors, in line with the shared interests of both nations.

The two sides also discussed mechanisms to expand collaboration and coordination, reflecting the broader strategic partnership between Baghdad and Moscow. In particular, they exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming Russian-Arab Summit, scheduled to take place in October, highlighting the significance of continued dialogue between Russia and the Arab world.

The meeting marks a growing momentum in Iraq-Russia relations, against the backdrop of a shifting regional landscape and increased multilateral engagement.
