Iraq Reaffirms Support for US-Iran Talks

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, has concluded an official visit to Tehran, during which he held high-level talks with senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Baghdad and Tehran in the areas of security, energy, and the economy. The two sides also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, with particular emphasis on the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States.

The Minister reaffirmed Iraq’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at lifting sanctions on Iran and fostering sustainable regional stability.

Mr. Hussein also participated in the Tehran Dialogue Forum, organised by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he delivered a speech underlining Iraq’s commitment to dialogue as a strategic means of resolving conflicts. Also highlighted the interconnected nature of regional security and the need for comprehensive political approaches that respect national sovereignty and prioritise the interests of the people.

He further stressed the close link between the security of Iraq and Syria, noting that sustainable development cannot be achieved without regional stability. He called for enhanced relations across various sectors among countries in the region.
