Iraq Proposes AI University in Talks with China

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Naim Al-Abboudi, emphasised the importance of expanding academic cooperation between Iraq and China, calling for the establishment of an Iraq–China university specialising in Artificial Intelligence and advanced digital technologies.

The proposal was put forward during his meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, Mr Cui Wei, where both sides discussed ways to enhance scientific and educational partnerships between institutions in the two countries.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to implementing a strategic vision focused on diversifying sources of knowledge and engaging with leading international expertise in Artificial Intelligence and technological innovation. It aims to further this vision through expanded academic cooperation.

Ambassador Cui Wei expressed his country’s strong interest in academic collaboration with Iraq, particularly in the fields of education and technology. He welcomed the proposal to establish a university or institution focused on Artificial Intelligence, stating that such an initiative would help build knowledge and expertise in Iraq and contribute to sustainable development goals, such as advancing education and technological skills.
