In a major milestone for Iraq’s energy infrastructure, the Ministry of Oil has successfully completed the connection of the gas pipeline valve system feeding the Bismayah Power Plant, restoring gas flow after more than 48 hours of continuous national efforts. The achievement marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s gas transmission network and ensuring stable power generation.
The Ministry’s Undersecretary for Gas Affairs, Mr. Ezzat Sabir Ismail, described the completion of the 42-knot valve connection and resumption of gas pumping as a qualitative achievement, highlighting the intensive coordination and round-the-clock work led by Iraqi technical and engineering teams.
This effort was carried out under the directives and close supervision of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, who had emphasised the urgent need to resume gas flow to the power plant. The work was completed in line with strict safety standards and high-quality engineering protocols, ensuring the long-term stability and safety of gas supply to one of Iraq’s most vital power generation facilities.
Mr. Ismail also commended the outstanding performance of teams from the Oil Projects Company, the Pipelines Company, and their support units, who delivered the project ahead of schedule with a high level of professionalism and dedication.
The successful reconnection restores vital gas supplies to Bismayah, laying the groundwork for more reliable electricity production during peak demand periods.
