Interview with Fashion Designer Dhamyaa Al Saffar

Dhamyaa Al Saffar is an Iraqi traditional fashion designer who has created her brand a year ago, inspired by people’s passion to learn about Iraqi culture and history. Her initial ‘Our Heritage’ association aimed to revive Iraqi heritage in British cities, especially for foreign people who are not Iraqi themselves. Ms Al Saffar explains that it was difficult to build her brand in the beginning.

Being a woman, she faced the pressure of creating a brand whilst raising children and having to work another job, but her will and determination was stronger than these barriers. At Ms Al Saffar’s upcoming Fashion Show festival on March 8th, her designs, gowns and dresses will attempt to showcase the beauty of Iraqi tradition. She also wishes to empower and motivate other women who want to start their own projects but are hesitant.
