Celebrating Baghdad's Musical Talent

Baghdad’s Institute of Musical Studies held its annual celebration at Al-Shaab Hall, filling the evening with vibrant creativity and an impressive lineup of student performances.

The concert opened with musical selections showcasing Iraqi and Eastern musical heritage, including student Mohammed Sajad’s moving rendition of Maqam Hijaz Diwan and Ali Hassan’s Sama‘i Nahawand (From the Heart).

Group pieces, such as those performed by students Badr Khaled and Fadi Alaa, also drew praise.

Among the evening’s standout moments were Doaa Kareem’s emotional performance of Ghalbak Sakhur and Amjad Khairi’s interpretation of Maqam Dasht, arranged by Professor Handrin Hikmat.

The concert finale featured a memorable performance of Maqam Ajam by Professor Omar Raad, joined onstage by student Hawraa Adnan.

The celebration ended with Maestro Alaa Majid awarding certificates of appreciation to the instructors in recognition of their commitment to enriching Iraq’s academic music landscape. The event welcomed an audience of professors, artists, and music lovers alike, further highlighting its cultural significance in Baghdad.
