On Monday, Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research signed an academic protocol with the prestigious Dutch IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. The ceremony, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, marks a significant new chapter in bilateral cooperation between Iraq and the Netherlands.
The agreement seeks to strengthen scholarship programmes and expanding academic exchanges between the two countries, focusing on addressing Iraq’s pressing water related challenges through collaborate research and measures to build and enhance expertise.
Dr Naeem Al-Aboudi, Iraq’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighted the importance of the cooperation during the press conference following the signing. He emphasised that partnership greatly supports the ‘Study in Iraq’ initiative, while developing specialised academic curricula and training programmes in water science, which is an important field to gain expertise in due to Iraq’s environmental context.
“The protocol will facilitate knowledge exchange and skill development, enabling Iraqi universities and research centres to advance their capacity in water resource management,” Dr Al-Aboudi explained.
Dr Eddy Moors, Dean of IHE Delft, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration highlighting the institute’s commitment to fostering academic and reach ties with Iraq. “We look forward to working closely with our Iraqi partners to ensure successful student and research exchanges that contribute meaningfully to both nations,” he stated.
The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of H.E. Ms Jeanette Seppen, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands to Iraq, who affirmed her country’s support for academic and scientific collaboration
