Ashura Procession in Baghdad

Baghdad honours the Day of Ashura, the tenth day of the Holy month of Moharram. The grievers are dressed in black and provide food and drinks as part of their mourning.

The procession takes place with people chanting in the memory of Imam Hussein, who was killed during the Battle of Karbala. Also, they organise plays representing the life of Imam Hussein with the scene of his tragic death.

The community gathers together on this day, including children who help to distribute and provide services for the community. This is a time when people get in touch with their humanity creating a peaceful environment to grieve the death of Imam Hussein, who fought to promote virtue amongst humans.
