Al-Ukhaidir Fortress: A Trip Back in Time

Karbala – (iina) This ancient palace was built approximately around 775 AD for Abbasid Prince Isa ibn Musa in the south of Karbala, Iraq. The palace consists of a rectangular shaped fortress built with stone with a combination of Sassanian style and Islamic architecture.

A few artifacts have been found dating back to the Abbasid era, such as pottery and coins. This fortress is a great treasure for Iraq and there are still many facts about the activities in the fortress that are a mystery to this day.

The Al-Ukhaidir Fortress is included to the UNESCO World Heritage as part of a cultural heritage site.
