UNESCO-Listed Iraqi Maqam Preserved in Kirkuk

As part of ongoing efforts to document Iraq’s historic buildings and safeguard cultural century-old heritage sites, the Iraqi Maqam House in Kirkuk continues to play a vital role in preserving one of the country’s most significant artistic traditions.

During a special visit, the Director of the Iraqi Maqam House welcomed an accredited representative of Wikipedia Iraq, who received a guided tour of the House, highlighting its architectural and cultural significance as a landmark dedicated to the preservation of Iraqi Maqam.

Recognised by UNESCO, the Iraqi Maqam remains a cornerstone of Iraq’s musical identity.
The Kirkuk Maqam House serves as a living centre for this tradition, hosting artistic performances, cultural events, and educational activities that ensure its continuity across generations.
