Iraq’s Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Thiyab Abdullah, signed a strategic agreement with the German Agency for International Cooperation. (GIZ)
This partnership means a huge step forward for Iraq in their mission towards climate-resilient water management. This event took place as part of Baghdad’s 5th International Water Conference, held under the slogan, “Water and Technology: A Partnership for Development.” The project’s primary focus will be on the Hilla River Basin, a vital waterway spanning across the Euphrates that flows through Babylon, Diwaniyah and Muthanna.
This initiative will boost Iraq’s ability to manage its water resources sustainably amidst climate change. The project’s key aims are; modernising water information systems by upgrading infrastructure, using AI to track water distribution and exploring the reuse of drainage water.
This collaboration demonstrates how international partnerships can make a real difference, helping to secure water for future generations and creating a positive example of sustainable development for the region.
