New National Telecom Company in Iraq to Launch 5G

Prime Minister Al-Sudani has announced the launch of the National Mobile Telecommunications Services Company, a new state-backed mobile operator that aims to modernise Iraq’s telecommunications sector and diversify the country’s sources of income.

The Prime Minister sponsored the signing of the company’s Articles of Incorporation on Sunday. The new venture is a public joint-stock company established through the partnership of three government entities: the State Employees’ Pension Fund, the Trade Bank of Iraq, and Al-Salam General Company of the Ministry of Communications.

Al-Sudani praised the efforts of the Ministry of Communications, emphasising  the need to complete all necessary steps to begin providing services.

He confirmed that the company will roll out advanced 5G technology, ensuring nationwide access to high-speed mobile services.

This is the first time three state institutions have come together to establish a mobile company, adding that citizens will also be able to subscribe and contribute to its capital. Reflecting the government’s wider approach to developing the non-oil economy.

The government sees the new company as a cornerstone for digital transformation in Iraq, with 5G technology expected to support faster internet, smarter services, and greater opportunities for innovation and investment.
