Iraq–France Deal to Empower Film Industry Development

Dr Arif Al-Saadi, the Cultural Advisor to the Prime Minister of Iraq, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the French National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image, in a bid to boost creative cooperation between the two nations.

The agreement creates a permanent institutional framework for exchanging expertise, and focuses on sustainable financing and professional development for filmmakers at every stage from production to distribution.
Through the partnership, Iraqi filmmakers will gain access to training, residencies and international networks, allowing them to strengthen their practical skills and improve Iraq’s presence in the regional and international film sector.

This step by the Ministry of Culture aligns with the goals of the Iraqi Cinema Support Initiative; to build a sustainable national cinema that empowers creators and promotes Iraqi storytelling globally.
