Directed by Haider Jukan, the play ‘Rejected’ hit the stage at Baghdad’s Al Rasheed theatre on the evening of February 10th.
Covering a range of dynamic social issues, the play depicted instances of injustice and oppression across Iraq, with a central focus on women’s rights and human values – themes which addressed issues currently of widespread debate in the Iraqi parliament.
By employing stylistic choreography and dance moves in place of dialogue, the performance provoked an intense emotional response. Accompanied by a stage devoid of set design, with the use of carefully employed lighting and music to reinforce the powerful symbolism of the scenes.
